Things you should be aware of when visiting the Azores.
The Azores are not a beach or party holiday destination. They are however islands of unique quality which provide an insight into how things were in the past. They are havens for rock pool swimming and snorkeling; walking, from gentle strolls to mountain hikes; whale watching; deep sea fishing; scuba diving; cycling; relaxing; and perhaps of particular note - they are safe.
Note: Some sandy beaches (mostly black volcanic sand) can be found on all islands, for those in need of a beach fix. Note: There are a few low key Azorean bars and clubs on the larger islands if you require more entertainment than a quiet drink by the harbour. Also regularly during the summer, Azorean festivals occur on all the islands and provide unique Azorean and European entertainment for all the families in the islands. Of particular note: Sea Week on Faial.
